Bat Rest for iPhone

The iPhone maybe a great device and feel really comfortable in your hand, however there are times when you just want to put it down. Generally you don’t want to just plop it down on the table – especially if you are trying to watch a movie.

I know I was like this, trying to watch movies and eat my lunch when it was suggested to me that I try looking online for instructions on how to fold an iPhone Stand. Most of the folding stands are not easy to make and they really don’t last long. But the Bat Stand is different.

123batrestcreditcardThe Bat Rest is a small – like perfect fit in the wallet ‘small’ (see the pic on right, it’s the size of a credit card) and made of 1.2mm plastic. It simply folds from flat to stand and is rather neat – oh and it’s cheap only US$3.99 – buy two or more direct and the shipping is free!

Now when I first saw this stand I was a bit skeptical – I didn’t really think it would work that well, but it does. It’s a great angle for watching video, it holds the phone pretty well – although my phone does slip a little if you don’t pay attention when placing it. Even with the usb cable and headphones in, the phone sits pretty well in the rest.

The finish is a little rough, there is certainly no clean up applied to the cuts – but the edges are not sharp enough to damage your device. A little 120 grit sand paper and 2 mins and I had my white stand all nice and soft on the edges. For US$3.99 I can live with a little rough edge.

How about some pics?

The Bat Rest has now found a way into my wallet, it’s so easy to take with me when ever I want. Now I’ve only been using it for a week, so I can’t vouch for how many folds/unfolds the Bat Rest can take – but I’ve just opened and closed my one about 50 times and it doesn’t seem to affect it, just don’t fold it the wrong way.

For US$3.99 you can’t really go wrong – as a quick cheap stand this is perfect. You can buy your Bat Rest in Black, White or Translucent.

  1. I have a 5 yr old that watches Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh on his touch instead of a TV. I also watch podcast videos on my iphone.
    Thanks

I like the design, portable, functional and best of all small. I’ve been looking at some of the diy iphone stands, but like most things diy it takes some effort to get it right.

Bring on the Bat Rest :)

  3. This sounds like a great little device that is simple and just makes sense. I’m surprised I haven’t seen these in my circles but I’d love to be the first ;) I’m usually showing everyone movie clips from youtube or looking for something to rest my iphone on when I’m expecting a phone call. It’s also non-metallic so you can’t get fined for carrying a concealed weapon and it looks airport friendly for traveling… this would also be great for using in alarm clock mode at the hotel (I don’t rely on the ones they offer because they are always not waking me up for some reason or another).

I made my own stand and used it on my business trip this week. Long story short, it needs work. This bat rest sounds like a good solution so I won’t have to go through a second generation of my own stand.

Way cool, I prop my Touch on my laptop while eating, which sort of defeats the object. Also what chance of getting one of these in the UK?
    Keep up the good work.

  7. Thanks for mentioning the BatRest. It has been tested to 2000 openings and closings so they ought to last a long time. With reference to Mike’s question, they are available via airmail worldwide in 3-5 days but they come from the UK, so he can have one in his wallet tomorrow.

  8. PS That’s 2000 openings and closings without any sign of wear.

  10. Take a look at the BatRest’s replacement, the Crabble. It’s a bit bigger but it deals with all the BatRest’s limitations:

    - it still fits in a billfold wallet
    - portrait and landscape formats
    - landscape back to 45 degrees
    - rubber feet
