iTunes, the music store, was started in 2003. And now, in less than six years, they've sold 6 billion songs.

There's 10 million songs available, and there's 75 million accounts with credit cards.

Now, iTunes is the number one channel with music in the United States.

What's new? Three things.

First, the price. In the last six years, they've had one pricing model for the entire market. There's now three pricing tiers. $0.99 cents, $0.69 cents, and $1.29. Depending on how the music labels offer music, Apple will price accordingly. This comes in April.

Second, iTunes Plus. It's the way that Apple offers music DRM-free. You can play it on as many computers as you own, and has 256 kbps AAC encoding (better encoded). You can upgrade your entire purchased library to iTunes plus.

Starting today, 8 million (of 10 million) songs are now DRM free. By the end of Q1 2009, all 10 million songs in iTunes will be DRM free.

The third new thing is with the iPhone.

Now, the iTunes Wi-Fi music store is compatible with 3G, meaning it's just called the iTunes music store. It's the same price as on the Wi-Fi, the same selection, downloadable anywhere you are. (Same quality as well).

You can purchase or preview music anywhere, and sync the music back to your computer when you get home, same as you did before. This starts today.

Source[Gizmodo Live]

And people said the online music model would never work. I also say, about time for DRM-Free music. I wonder what this means for Napster and other DRM-Music stores.

Yesterday Steve Jobs issued a statement in the form of a open letter to the apple community explaining that he will not be attending MacWorld this year due to health reasons.

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I'm getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause'a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple's CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

Source [Apple]

We here a iTalk Magazine wish Steve all the best with his recovery.

Light coming form an mp3 player helped rescuers to find two lost tourist in the Swiss Alps. The French pair got themselves lost late on Friday while near skiing near the resort of Savognin in southeast Switzerland a Reuters Report stated.

The pair were apple to make a phone call on a mobile phone alerting authorities to the situation before their battery ran flat.

Gery Baumann, spokesman for mountain rescue service Rega. said “The two winter sports enthusiasts were found by the crew of the Rega helicopter shortly after midnight — thanks to the faint light of their MP3 player“.

The two men escaped with only mild hypothermia.

So the next time you are thinking about going off trail it might be worthwhile packing your mp3 player into your survival kit.

So as we head into the Christmas season it’s time we Dads thought about .. well our kids. I was talking to one of the guys from DIYFather.com recently about my iPhone and how I use it to keep my 14 month old entertained in church, on the airplane or similar places. He suggested I write up an article, and well here it is. These things apply equally to your iPod Touch/iTouch too, of course.

Entertain The Kids

The apps you download will, of course, depend on the age of your little ones, but here is my list:

<a href=http://italkmagazine.com/goto/motionxdice" target="_blank">Dice, by Motion X

It’s free, and fantastic! This dice rolling application means your little on can shake the living crap out of your phone and have dice rattling and rolling. My little one loves to shake, and then put the dice away (just watch they don’t throw your iTouch across the room!)

JingleJumble

Also free and fun, this Christmas-themed game will have your little one trying to figure out which body and feet belong to what face.

Ocarina

This musical instrument app is hugely fun and easy to play, my little one has figured out you blow on your iPhone to make this play music – just not the right bit. But I can play her favourite nursery rhymes to her and she loves it.

Koi Pond

Not really a game at all, it’s a Zen visualisation type thing, and the little ones love to try and tap the fish. The interactivity of this game is brilliant for the young ones … and calming when the young ones get on your nerves, too!

Raging Thunder

For older kids, this is a great car racing game that will entertain for hours. Easy to pick up and hard to put down.

Armado

This simple game about Armado the Armadillo made me the hero of all the kids in church. They love this game, and it’s so easy to play by simply tilting the screen and tapping to jump.

Duck Shoot

My little one is fascinated by ducks and this app from Polar Bear Farm means she can interact with her favourite animal in a fun, fair-ground type of way.

Keep Yourself Organized

Keeping the kids entertained is one thing, keeping yourself organised is another all together. Thankfully the iPod Touch/iPhone is great at this too!

Things

This organisational app is a life saver. I use Things on both Mac and iPhone and it keeps my work life, tasks and such like all in order. Well worth the cost just to keep your brain free of those worrying task lists.

Baby Milestones and Toddler Milestones

There are heaps of applications for tracking baby due date, milestones, and so forth, these are just two of them.

Phone Aid

This really is a must have for any parent. Step by step first aid instructions, with a voice over track – to tell you how to do CPR, basic first aid etc. It is American, with instructions like “ring 911″ but most applies anywhere

Gas Cubby

This app will make sure your car is always in tip top shape. Track your gas usage and maintenance (great app for the wife’s iTouch) in US or international units.

Bonus links

Of course I have to throw in some bonus links:

My Very First Album

You need to have music for your kids, and this album is sure to drive you totally nuts, but your little one will love it!

Toy Piano

This one’s perfect for little fingers taping away to make music, but is also guaranteed to drive you mad unless your kid is using headphones!

Squeakies

This one’s a strangely addictive game that is easy for little fingers, it’s basically a memory game so they are learning as they play.

Summary

The iPhone is the perfect phone for you, and is a near perfect tool for your little ones. It’s ease of use, it’s fun interface, it’s robustness is great. Just make sure you have a backup, my little one often holds down the icons causing them to flip into edit mode (sometimes an app disappears and I wonder where it’s gone).

I highly recommend you put a skin on (check out our supporters BestSkinsEver) to protect it from scratches and drool.

<strike>Suggest your favourite kids apps below and go in the draw to win from our christmas giveaway.</strike> Sorry, Christmas giveaway is over but check back often for more giveaways and competitions!

Warning: not for the faint hearted. This video shows just how much data about you, your trends, your movements and your messages, that your iPhone captures and stores.

Your phone will capture screen shots, heaps of them, with your last GPS map location, with the last app you used, the last email you sent.

For example, to create the effect of the current screen shrinking into the background, when you hit the home button, it first takes a snapshot of the screen, and then shows you that image being manipulated.

Apparently, these screenshots are written to memory, with a whole lot of other information and can be accessed by law enforcement officials to incriminate the guilty. It’s awesome that the iPhone can be used for such positives as explained at the end of the video, but how scary is it to have all your own data stored indefinitely on your iPhone?

What do you think about this type of access to your data?

Will this make you think twice about what you use your iPhone for?

If your iPhone is a corporate phone – do you think your boss is spying on you?

Do you know of a way to get rid of this data?
