Gmail offline on the iPhone

The web is ablaze this morning with news, Gmail on the iPhone (and Android, probably the Pre) will soon have full offline support. Meaning when you are flying on one of those airlines without In-Air Wifi you can still read and write mail.

Using the new features of HTML 5, Google are creating a really cool web app based solution for mail. HTML 5 includes in its specification app cache and database support. Now I don’t fully understand that as HTML by nature is markup, but anyhoo Google and the W3C know more about this than me.

So how does it work? Our mates over at iPhoneBuzz put together this video, take a look:

Pretty nifty ey!

I get the feeling this will be heavily supported by Chrome as well.
