iPhone Rumors for 2009

With MacWorld a mere handful of days away & 2009 here already the interwebs are ablaze with rumors and rumors of upcoming apple products.

So today while feeling a tad under the weather, I’ve decided to pull together into one blog post as many rumors (links to that is) that I could. (Go Gooooooogle he he). These are in no particular order either, some I’d like to see – others not so fussed about.

Read on below the jump for details

Giant iPod Touch HD

Will Apple bring a larger than life iPod to the show? Rumored to have either 800×600 or 720×480 resolution this device is to said to be a fore runner to the wildly rumored NetMac.
My Thoughts I suspect Apple will introduce an HD version of the iPod Touch but I don’t see it growing in size all that much.

Verizon iPhone

When Apple was first shopping around for a network partner Verizon was high on the list. Of course we all know that AT&T won that battle and locked up Apple for 2, or was it 3 or maybe 5 years? Rumors on The Standard see Apple announcing a Verizon option in 2009.
My Thoughts Not being a US based customer I find this hard to comment on. However if Apple wish to put the iPhone in more hands it would make sense to open up to other networks.

iPhone Pro

iPhone Pro/Elite

This one is, well interesting to say the least. A large format phone with slide out keyboard, multiple cameras for video calling & a large 5 mega pixel camera with zoom and Flash.
My Thoughts I highly doubt while Steve is in charge that the iPhone will ever have a roll out keyboard. My old HTC had one, my iPhone does not and I much prefer the iPhone keyboard as it is. As for the zoom lens, maybe but it wont protrude the body as suggested here. (For example the SonyEricsson G900 we used in our iPhone Camera Shoot Out has a flat back but the camera does have optical zoom). I think there is a possibility of multiple cameras for video calling, if Apple can do it and make it sexy. If there is any truth to the iPod Touch HD, it’d make sense this iPhone Pro is maybe iPhone HD.

Walmart $99 4GB?

This rumor has been around as long as … well a while anyway. We all know now that Walmart are carrying the current iPhones, but rumors still exist saying Apple are creating a smaller 4GB iPhone for Walmart to sell at the magic $99 price point.
My ThoughtsNot sure, it’s more likely that the iPhone Nano could be put in at $99, but I can see it carrying hefty monthly contract fees to get the price to this point. And why only Walmart and not Target? Will we see the iPhone in KMart in Australia & New Zealand? The short answer is no, not in 2009.

International App Store Promo Codes

This is a rumor we are starting here at iTalk Magazine because we think it makes sense. Currently App developers can issue up to 50 Promo Codes for apps to be redeemed solely in the US iTunes Store. This is just plain crazy, however Apple are known for releasing features to their US market first. So expect to see in 2009, Promotional Codes being able to be redeemed internationally – which will be awesome for us, so we can give away copies of our favourite applications!!

Summary

Of course we’ll never know exactly what is coming, the much rumored iPhone Nano could arrive, but then Steve could walk on stage dressed in a Santa Suit for all we know.

All we do know is this is the last official MacWorld & Steve will NOT be giving the Keynote.

We will post relevant comments on the event, but won’t be live blogging as there are numerous other sites that will be doing that for you.

What are your thoughts on the rumors that have hit the interwebs thus far?

  1. Get Well Soon!

I’d really love to see a unibody netbook – be it flip open like a laptop or like a tablet with it’s iphone/itouch look… virtual keys or real keys… Something small like a 9 inch screen and enough processing power to program and hack away at the local starbucks. Apple could totally do it and win over the world – they just don’t. Their new motto should be “We just don’t”… What are they waiting for?

  2. Mr K says:

Yeah well one of the reasons they don’t is because they can’t do it for a reasonable price. Apple won’t create something at $500 just because they can, as Steve said “We can’t create a netbook for $500 that isn’t crap”

  3. bah no one says it has to be 500… i just want a portable mac!

  4. [...] wonder if any of the 2009 rumours will be confirmed. [...]
